Robles hit a ground ball to shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who fielded the ball and threw it to first baseman Ty France.
France appeared to have caught the ball, but the umpire ruled that he had dropped it, allowing Robles to reach base.
The call was widely criticized on social media, with many people calling it "absolutely ridiculous.
The Yankees went on to win the game in extra innings, 6-5.
The Mariners are now 3-6 on the season, while the Yankees are 9-0.
