Determining Cooking Time
The key to achieving perfectly cooked turkey is understanding how cooking time varies based on the weight of the bird. As a general rule, an unstuffed turkey cooks at a rate of 13 minutes per pound. This means a 12-pound turkey will require approximately 2 hours and 36 minutes to roast in a 350ºF oven.
Adjusting for Stuffing
If you plan on stuffing your turkey, you'll need to adjust the cooking time. Stuffed poultry takes longer to cook due to the additional mass and moisture in the stuffing. For stuffed turkeys, increase the cooking time by 30-45 minutes per pound.
