Calgary to announce new mandatory outdoor water use restrictions
Restrictions could be in place by May if dry conditions continue
City calls on Calgarians to use water wisely
The City of Calgary is warning it may restrict outdoor water use by May if dry conditions keep up.
The city is currently in Stage 1 of its drought response plan, which means there are no restrictions on outdoor water use.
However, if conditions worsen, the city could move to Stage 2, which would mean a mandatory reduction in outdoor water use.
Under Stage 2, residents would be allowed to water their lawns twice a week, on designated days.
The city could also move to Stage 3 or 4, which would mean even stricter restrictions on outdoor water use.
The city is asking Calgarians to use water wisely, even if restrictions are not in place.
Residents can do this by watering their lawns less often, taking shorter showers, and fixing leaks.
The city is also offering a number of water conservation programs, including rebates on low-flow toilets and rain barrels.
